The healthcare community has embraced social media as a way to gain and share knowledge, network, and disseminate information to patients. Within social media, Twitter has become the most efficient method of social media communication in healthcare. Engagement on social media platforms during the SPA/AAP Pediatric Anesthesiology 2020 meeting in the Bahamas was at an all-time high.
Prior to the start of the meeting, we registered the hashtag #SPABAH20 with Symplur Signals to track Twitter metrics throughout the meeting. This is the fourth year we have tracked engagement of our spring meeting.
The meeting hashtag generated 249 participants, 2,932 tweets, and over 6.5 million impressions. An impression is a metric that represents the reach of your audience by taking into account the number of tweets and the number of followers for every participant. In 2019, the meeting hashtag (#SPAATX2019) only garnered 3 million impressions.
Recapping the SPA/AAP Pediatric Anesthesia meeting Twitter engagement highlights the core principles of why so many are turning to social media: lifelong learning, global interaction, and an enriched meeting experience. See some of the top tweets below!
