Dr. Aditee Ambardekar earned her medical degree from The University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2004. She completed anesthesiology residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She joined the faculty at UPenn and CHOP in 2009. Dr. Ambardekar became interested in simulation-based education and graduate medical education very early in her career and earned a master's in education from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, she joined the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As the only pediatric anesthesiologist at Parkland Hospital, she developed expertise in pediatric burn anesthesia. Dr. Ambardekar's leadership roles include Residency Program Director and Assistant Designated Institutional Official in the Office of Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Ambardekar is a national education leader. She sat on the Anesthesiology Review Committee at the ACGME and was the Chair of the committee from 2020-2023. Dr. Ambardekar is an Applied Examiner with the American Board of Anesthesiology. Most recently, Dr. Ambardekar participated on the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia's Task Force on GME and led the group through a national consensus building initiative to assess and redefine aspects of pediatric anesthesiology fellowship, including new case log requirements, effective July 2026. Dr. Ambardekar's academic interests include simulation, graduate medical education, and pediatric burn anesthesia. She curates pediatric anesthesia content specific to education for Pediatric Anesthesia Article of the Day. She is proud of helping her late colleague and mentor, Dr. Ronald Litman, publish the 3rd edition of his book, Litman's Basics of Pediatric Anesthesia. When not at work, Dr. Ambardekar enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.

James (Jim) G Cain, MD, MBA, FASA, FAAP recently joined the University of Florida College of Medicine - Jacksonville in June 2023 as Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Scranton, where he also lettered in wrestling, a doctorate in medicine and a master's in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh. He completed an internship at Yale University and an anesthesiology residency and advanced training in critical care medicine and adult and pediatric cardiac anesthesiology at Harvard University's Massachusetts General Hospital and Boston Children's Hospital. He is triply board-certified in anesthesiology, pediatric anesthesiology, and critical care medicine. Prior to coming to UF COMJ, Cain served as Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Department Quality Officer, Professor and Senior Vice Chair of anesthesiology at the West Virginia University. Preceding that, he served as an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh, as well as Perioperative Medical Director and Director of Solid Organ Transplant Anesthesiology and Trauma Anesthesiology at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Previously, he served as Director of Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Instructor at Harvard University School of Medicine. Early in his medical career, Cain became passionate about trauma care and resuscitation and has been actively involved in the advance of Trauma Care. While in medical school, Cain had the opportunity to work under the direction and mentorship of Peter Safar, MD, the "father of CPR" and three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee for medicine. As president of the Trauma Anesthesiology Society and the past president of the International Trauma and Critical Care Society (ITACCCS), he has worked to expand the expertise of traumatologists and care of trauma patients nationally and globally. In addition to his advocacy work in trauma care, Cain has been long involved in state and national Anesthesiology efforts. He served as President of the West Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists as well as on its Board of Directors and as West Virginia's Delegate to the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and the Pennsylvania Society of Anesthesiologists as a member of their Board of Directors and Delegate to the ASA. Cain has been active in research and research supporting activities throughout his career. He has numerous publications, book chapters, abstracts, and scholarly projects. He also served as editor-in-chief of the journal Trauma Care, chaired the ITACCS Research Committee, and served on and chaired various scientific planning committees and editorial boards. Long committed to global health improvement, Cain continues to see that the most immediate and long-lasting impact is through education. He has taught at all levels of medical education from local to international, developing and implementing curricula, supporting scholarly activities, and critically evaluating professionalism and competency from trainees through faculty. Among his most rewarding endeavors was chairing the University of Pittsburgh Anesthesiology Department's Evaluation and Competency Committee and inaugural Milestones Committee where they developed de novo the department Milestones process as one of a handful of ACGME beta test sites. When he is not practicing medicine, Cain enjoys spending time with his family - his wife of 32 years, Roberta (an OB-GYN), and children Jamie, Francesca, and Noelle - engaging in the arts and cheering on their favorite teams. He dabbles on the drums and occasionally the guitar. Among his favorite activities are taking in nature, especially running, hiking, biking, and swimming.

Dr. Odinakachukwu (Odi) Ehie, MD, MAEd is an Associate Professor and board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist with a deep commitment to medical education, global health equity, and inclusive excellence. She earned her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin's “Madison School of Medicine and Public Health and completed her anesthesiology residency at NYU Langone Medical Center. She subsequently pursued fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology at Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, where she also led global health education initiatives focused on perioperative care and capacity building in Vietnam. Dr. Ehie currently serves as Vice Chair for Opportunity & Outreach in the Department of Anesthesia at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where she leads departmental efforts focused on community, opportunity, recruitment, and engagement. She is also the Head of Clinical Skills Curriculum for the UC Berkeley's UCSF Joint Medical Program (JMP) and Faculty Director of Student Support for the UCSF School of Medicine, where she plays a key role in mentoring and advising medical students across all stages of training. Her educational leadership is grounded in both clinical expertise and pedagogical training - she recently earned a Masters in Education from UC Berkeley with a focus on equity-centered curriculum design and learner development. Nationally, Dr. Ehie is the Chair of the Global Health Outreach Committee for the Society for Education in Anesthesia (SEA) and serves as Vice Chair for Community, Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement (CORE) for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA). Randall Flick, M.D., M.P.H., is a consultant in the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology with a joint appointment in the Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Dr. Flick recently competed nearly 10 years as Director of the Mayo Clinic Children's Center. In that role he oversaw all pediatric activity across the Mayo Clinic Enterprise reporting directly to the Mayo Clinic Dean for Practice and to the CEO. He holds the academic rank of Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics. Dr. Flick received the R.N. diploma from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing and the B.A. degree in biology from Moorhead State University. He earned the M.D. degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine (AOA) and the M.P.H. degree from The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Flick completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at St. Louis Children's Hospital, Washington University; a residency in anesthesiology at Barnes Hospital-Washington U.; and a fellowship in advanced specialty training in pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1995. He holds board certification in four specialities including pediatrics and pediatric critical care (ABP) as well as anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology (ABA). Dr. Flick is a past president the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia Board of Directors and previously chaired the ASA Committee on Pediatric Anesthesiology. For the United States Food and Drug Administration, Dr. Flick has served as Chair of the Advisory Committee on Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products (AADPAC) and as a member of the Pediatric Advisory Committee (PAC) reporting directly to the FDA commissioner. Dr. Flick currently serves as a member of the National Institutes of Child Health and Development Pediatrics Study Section and as a site reviewer for the American College of Surgeons Childrens Surgery Verification Program. In the community, he has served as president of the local Ronald McDonald House Board, is a Global Medical Advisor to Americares International, a current trustee of the Minnesota Zoo and a past board member of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, Women's Empowerment and Leadership Initiative (WELI). Recognized as an international expert in his field, Dr. Flick has presented at numerous local, regional, national, and international meetings. He is a prolific publisher, with over 100 peer- reviewed articles, abstracts, and book chapters to his credit. Dr. Flick's research interests include outcomes in pediatric anesthesia, neurodevelopment effect of anesthetic exposure, and quality in pediatric hospital care. He is Co-PI on a federally funded study of the effects of anesthetic exposure on the developing brain (R01 HD071907-04, MASK Study) and co-investigator on a follow-up study (R01 HD099147-01A1) Neuroimaging Studies in Pediatric Anesthesia Neurotoxicity. Dr. Flick and his wife Loree have three sons Bryant/Sara(Rochester, Minnesota), Garrett/Tori (Orlando, Florida), Grant/Emily (Minneapolis), grandsons (Owen and Albert), and granddaughter (Mara).

Biography of Judith A. Jones, MD, FAAP, FASA Dr. Jones is a Pediatric Anesthesiologist at Nemours Childrenâ€™s Hospital, Delaware, and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Jones earned her Bachelor of Science (Hons) and Medical Degrees from the University of the West Indies at the Mona Campus in Kingston, Jamaica. She completed internship in Jamaica and worked as a House Officer in Anesthesiology at the Bustamante Childrenâ€™s Hospital and the Kingston Public Hospital system. She completed Anesthesiology Residency training at the University of South Florida. This was followed by Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship training at the University of Miami. She is board certified in General and Pediatric Anesthesiology. Dr. Jones is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA), the Delaware Society of Anesthesiologists (DSA), the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Florida Medical Association (FMA). She practices primarily at Nemours Childrenâ€™s Hospital Delaware and has special interest in advocacy. Dr. Jones has served as Co-Director of the APECX (Anesthesiology Partnerships in Education, Collegiality and Excellence) Committee at Nemours Childrenâ€™s Hospital (NCH) Delaware and has been involved in pipeline programs for the recruitment of under-represented minority high school and college students into healthcare-related careers for over a decade, as well as mentoring Residents and Medical students from under-represented groups. Her outreach work with Nemours takes her to her native country of Jamaica, where she has led the Anesthesiology team since 2018 at the Bustamante Hospital for Children performing Living- Related Donor Liver Transplants for pediatric patients from Jamaica and the Caribbean, who would otherwise succumb to the effects of end-stage liver disease. She is Vice-Chair of the Credentialing Committee at NCH Delaware, and serves on the Committee on Admissions at the Thomas Jefferson University.

Bio

Dr. Mihaela Visoiu is a pediatric anesthesiologist with expertise in perioperative pain management and pediatric regional anesthesia. Most of her clinical time is spent in the operating rooms, rounding on the floor, providing patient care, and teaching and supervising student nurse anesthetists, anesthesiology residents, and fellows. Dr. Visoiu collaborates with various surgical services to implement new protocols for postoperative pain control. In her research, she develops new techniques for the placement and use of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks in children, infants, and neonates and compares those techniques with established methods for pain control. Dr. Visoiu is interested in using clonidine as an adjunct medication for pediatric regional anesthesia and has investigated postoperative pain control outcomes and pain perception in teenagers and the transgender population. Her goals are to improve pediatric perioperative pain management, the safety of pediatric regional anesthesia, and family satisfaction with pain control. Dr. Visoiu's research has been featured on the cover of the journal Pediatric Anesthesia three times (October 2018, March 2019, and January 2022). Dr. Visoiu has significant experience participating in and leading multi-center clinical trials to understand the efficacy and safety of novel approaches to pain management and has extensive experience in managing large grant-funded projects. Dr. Visoiu worked with Dr. Sadhasivam as a coinvestigator in his NIH studies and will serve as principal investigator in a funded pupillometry NIH study. Dr. Visoiu is also interested in advancing pediatric regional anesthesia education by developing ultrasound regional anesthesia simulators. In collaboration with the UPMC Department of Radiology and the Swanson School of Engineering and Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, she developed a neonatal ultrasound epidural caudal block simulator for single injection and catheter placement (U.S. provisional patent application, due for nationalization 04/2024). This simulator was featured by Pitt Fall Med Magazine 2023 in the article Idea to Reality. Dr. Visoiu's participation and leadership in the 28th Update Course in Pediatric Anesthesiology and High-Fidelity Pediatric Anesthesia Simulation Workshops held October 22 - 24, 2025, at ABC Medical Center in Mexico City, not only showcased her expertise in pediatric regional anesthesia but also fostered international academic exchange, advancing evidence-based practices in pediatric pain management. As a pediatric anesthesiologist at Boston Children's Hospital, I am constantly involved in educating our trainees to provide safe and high-quality care for our precious patients. My commitment to fellow and resident training goes well beyond clinical care supervision and involves a variety of educational activities I have helped developed in the department, such as Morning report lecture series, Simulation course for our pediatric anesthesia fellows. I am the Director of Simulation for the Department of Anesthesia at BCH and one of the ACD of the Simulation center at BCH. I am closely involved in curriculum development and I play a leading role in different medical simulation structures and projects at departmental, hospital and national level. One of these, the Simulation program for the Pediatric Anesthesia fellowship that I have developed and lead, is considered by the pediatric anesthesia fellows to be one of the educational highlights of our fellowship. I am also one of the leaders for the surgical team training sponsored by CRICO. I am one of the founding members of the specialized care team at BCH that is involved with the perioperative care for transgender and gender diverse population(GASPP). As such I led a small team in preparing and publishing clinical guidelines and ERAS protocols on the Anesthesia site for some of the surgeries for this patient population. We have conducted different lectures on topics relevant to the gender diverse patients. I am senior author of a publication describing the experiences we had at BCH taking care of transgender patients. As of 2021 I completed certification in life coaching. I am coaching with national and international organizations like PCS, Better Together Physicians Coaching and AMWA. In the current social situation physician burnout is considered crisis that needs immediate attention and life coaching has been incorporated in many institutions with promising results. I am deeply committed to supporting my fellow physicians on their journeys to greater balance, resilience, and personal fulfillment. With over 20 years in clinical practice and certifications from The Life Coach School and the Certified Life Coach Institute, I understand firsthand the pressures physicians face. Driven by a passion for helping others find peace and purpose in their careers, I provides one-on-one and group coaching with a focus on self-compassion, emotional resilience, and sustainable growth as well as I lecture on the value of coaching for achieving balanced and fulfilled life and build a passionate and well rounded carrier.

Dr. Chelsea Willie is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology who is a pediatrician turned pediatric intensivist turned pediatric anesthesiologist that now splits her time between the operating room (OR) and pediatric intensive care unit (ICU). This allows for a unique experience of combining several skills sets between specialties and forges an opportunity to improve communication and patient management between these environments. Dr. Willie is nationally known for engaging in alternative modes of education including creating escape rooms to teach medical concepts, creating breakout boxes as a smaller experience, and instilling gamification principles into teaching endeavors. It is important that she not only enjoys teaching, but that she is effective in the process, so continues to search for ways to make learning both applicable and fun for adult learners. Most of her energy has been spent using simulation to teach and she serves as the director for the CW Midwest Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Bootcamp which is a regional event for pediatric anesthesia fellows to immerse in simulation events at the start of their training and allows faculty from neighboring Midwest institutions to network while providing multiple perspectives to educate fellows. Dr. Willie shares her enthusiasm for education by directing workshops at multiple national and international conferences, including the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia, the Society of Education in Anesthesia, and the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare. Since July 2019, Dr. Willie has served as one of the Associate Program Directors for the Anesthesiology core residency program with a focus on developing the CA-1 resident curriculum. In this position she mentors, teaches, evaluates, heavily recruits, and gives some of the best hugs! She has dived into her passion to lift others and ensure that the perceived lesser among us have a voice as a co-chair for the Children's Wisconsin Medstaff JEDI committee with a focus on health equity. This passion has expanded as she was selected to be the Director for DEI for the Department of Anesthesiology in July 2022, now entitled Director of Inclusion and Engagement. When she is not moving the career needle forward, Dr. Willie is active at church teaching 6-year-olds, taking ballroom dance lessons, enjoying a theater performance, and traveling around the world. She is always willing to open her home to share her Southern hospitality. Yes, she sleeps - but most importantly - she lives!

During his distinguished career at Johns Hopkins and the University of Colorado, Myron Yaster, MD has changed the practice of anesthesiology, pediatrics, pediatric pain medicine and pediatric critical care medicine locally, nationally, and internationally. He has mentored more than 150 faculty and fellows who have gone on to establish independent, distinguished careers in academic and private practice medicine. Dr. Yaster is board-certified in Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatric Anesthesia, and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. After completing residencies in Pediatrics (Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, University of Pittsburgh) and Anesthesiology (University of Pennsylvania) and fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine (Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania) he joined the Hopkins faculty in 1982. He retired from Hopkins in 2016 and joined the faculty at the University of Colorado. He retired from the University of Colorado in 2021. In retirement he edits the daily Ron Litman's Pediatric Anesthesia Article of the Day which reaches a daily audience of over 5,900 readers in 99 countries. In an ongoing series of clinical and laboratory experiments that started shortly after his arrival at Hopkins, Dr. Yaster has been at the forefront of studies that demonstrated that the newborn infant responds to pain. More importantly, he and his colleagues have proven that this pain can be prevented by the appropriate use of anesthetics (general and regional) and analgesic drugs. Clearly pain, anxiety, and discomfort (both physical and psychological) are not limited to the newborn and do not begin and end with the induction and conclusion of surgery and anesthesia. Dr. Yaster started the Pediatric Pain Service at Johns Hopkins and was until 2005 its clinical director. This program treats approximately 3,000 in- and out-patients a year and is considered by many to be among the best programs in the world. It sets the standard for practice nationally and internationally and has served as the source of extensive clinical and translational research as well as practice policy. He and his colleagues have published extensively in this area. He has authored more than 300 original papers and book chapters as both the first author and as the senior author. In the later capacity he has been the mentor of many individuals who have gone on to become leaders in the areas of Pediatric Anesthesiology, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and Pediatric Pain Management. Finally, Dr. Yaster founded and was the first President of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. This is the largest subspecialty organization of its kind in this field. It currently has over 4,000 members. In recognition of his many contributions to the Society, the Society founded the Myron Yaster, MD Lifetime Achievement Award which is awarded annually to leaders in the field of Pediatric Anesthesiology.
