LEARNER OBJECTIVES:
DESCRIPTION:
ABA diplomats must complete multiple activities over their 10-year MOCA cycle to demonstrate that they are participating in evaluation of their clinical practice and their engagement in practice improvement activities. In MOCA 2.0, diplomats must earn 25 points per five-year period for a total of 50 points during the 10-year MOCA cycle. Successful completion of the MOCA Simulation @ SPA activity will fulfill 25 points (ALL) of the required Part 4 activities for a five-year period.

Know Pain, Know Gain: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Managing Acute and Transitional Perioperative Pain
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Articulate and value roles of members on an interdisciplinary pain team;
2. Outline and deconstruct perioperative assessment of pain and goal setting;
3. Identify risk factors for persistent post-surgical pain, and implement strategies for addressing them;
4. Formulate and implement effective pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management strategies;
5. Devise effective strategies for knowledge translation and sustainability of the program within own individual institutions

Advanced Workshop in Quality Improvement, Safety and Performance Management
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Provide an introduction to the various frameworks available for quality improvement and performance management;
2. Discuss the concepts of Lean methodology, the use of Lean tools and provide examples of clinical projects using this framework that have demonstrated improvements in the perioperative area;
3. Provide the knowledge and tools required for advanced analytical methods, i.e., control charts;
4. Provide the principles and knowledge required to successfully sustain and spread change
Strategies for Building Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Capacity to Maximize Your Impact as a DEI Leader
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Participate in a coaching session to identify DEI areas of opportunity at their organizations and discuss ways to gain organizational support;
2. Analyze strategies for successful DEI Program Implementation, Recruitment/Mentoring, Pursuing DEI Research/Grant Writing, or Managing DEI Leadership Positions;
3. Create an Action Plan that will empower participants to achieve their DEI goals and maximize their impact as a DEI Leader
Comprehensive Pediatric Point of Care Ultrasound
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize differences in each system-based pediatric POCUS assessment as compared to the adult counterpart, and to identify additional avenues, especially in the neonate, where pediatric POCUS can be more practically expanded without the constraints of the adult anatomy in the perioperative setting;
2. Apply airway and pulmonary ultrasound to noninvasively evaluate anatomical airways, pulmonary pathology, and diaphragm for informed management decisions in the perioperative period;
3. Utilize gastric ultrasound to categorize the risk of aspiration of gastric contents;
4. Review Focused Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) exam for rapid transthoracic evaluation of the heart to identify cardiovascular causes of hypotension by checking for diminished systolic function, pericardial effusion, and valvular dysfunction;
5. Acquire the Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST) exam skill for identifying the presence of free intraperitoneal and pericardial fluid for patients presenting with thoracoabdominal trauma
Mass Casualty Incidents - Prepare and Practice
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. List three actions they would immediately take to prepare the operating room in the event of a mass casualty;
2. ncorporate the guidelines in the American Society for Anesthesiology Manual for Anesthesia Department Organization and Management in mass casualty preparedness plans in their organizations;
3. Use tourniquets to effectively stop hemorrhage in trauma victims, as taught in the "stop the bleed" campaign;
4. Explain the principles of triage in mass casualty events including processes for immediate surge capacity in the event of large-scale public health emergencies;
5. Become leaders and advocates for children in mass casualty preparedness at their institutions.
"I want to do research": Practical Approaches to Getting Your First Clinical Research Project Off the Ground and Into a Journal
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. List at least one strategy to begin to practically develop a study protocol from a given research idea;
2. Discuss the merits of both prospective and retrospective study designs and how they can be applied to various research questions;
3. List at least two different statistical approaches to potentially addressing a given research question;
4. Describe the anatomy of a research paper and the specific content elements that go into the various sections including the introduction, methods, results, and discussion;
5. Describe next steps in terms of obtaining funding for a research project and potentially moving from single center-based studies to multi-center projects

Death on the Table: How to Coach Resiliency Skills Following a Clinical Crisis (Sponsored by the SPA Simulation SIG)
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Introduce concept of "Second Victims" and the potential psychological trauma of pediatric peri-operative catastrophes;
2.Describe the "4Rs of Resiliency" coaching (take-home materials supplied) and how to deliver this;
3. Weigh up the pros and cons of introducing this process after simulated crises vs real life crises;
4. Provide expert-led advice and How-Tos for participants to launch this coaching process at home institutions
Ultrasound-Guided Caudal Block, Single Injections, and Catheter Placement Advanced Cephalad at the Lumbar or Thoracic Level
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Recognize ultrasound landmarks for performing caudal single-injection nerve blocks and catheters.
2. Perform ultrasound-guided caudal single-injection blocks;
3. Place caudal epidural catheters advanced cephalad at the lumbar or thoracic level and to confirm the catheters' tip at the desired spinal level;
4. Avoid potential complications such as placement of the needle under the coccyx, subcutaneously, or inside the dural sac
Immersive Technologies in Perioperative Anxiety and Chronic Pain Management: Virtual and Augmented Reality
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. List several types of immersive technology and identify various resource available that may be useful to helping reduce anxiety and acute and chronic pain;
2. Describe ways to modify currently available technology for use in different practices;
3. Discuss the benefits of decreased pharmacologic interventions in achieving anxiolysis and improved analgesia;
4. Review modalities such as virtual reality, video/computer games, movies etc and the various scenarios where they are useful
TRAINEE WORKSHOP: Establishing a Firm Foundation - Leveraging Mentors/Sponsors/Coaches/Advisors (TRAINEES ONLY)
Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the difference between a mentor, advisor, coach, and sponsor;
2. Explain how mentees can identify and approach potential mentors;
3. Define the roles and responsibilities of mentors and mentees
