Bio

Judith Albino, PhD, is President Emerita and Professor Emerita at the University of Colorado. For ten years, she directed the year-long Leadership for Innovative Team Science (LITeS) program at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus; she helped to develop and now continues similar work at the University of Minnesota. Today she provides leadership and professional skills training, as well as executive coaching and a broad range of organizational consulting services. Trained in psychological science and communications at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Albino’s research career focused on population health disparities, resulting in more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and a successful record of NIH funding for clinical trials and studies of behavioral interventions. She has received numerous awards for her work, is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and of the American Association for Oral and Craniofacial Research, and was named Distinguished Psychologist in Management by the Society of Psychologists in Leadership. She has served on corporate, hospital, and non-profit Boards and consulted to professional associations. Her work in the health care and education sectors draws on direct leadership experience as a dean, vice-president, and president of two higher education institutions, and emphasizes strengths-based approaches and cognitive-behavioral strategies for change.

Bio

Dr. Aditee Ambardekar earned her medical degree from The University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2004. She completed anesthesiology residency at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She joined the faculty at UPenn and CHOP in 2009. Dr. Ambardekar became interested in simulation-based education and graduate medical education very early in her career and earned a master’s in education from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2014, she joined the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. As the only pediatric anesthesiologist at Parkland Hospital, she developed expertise in pediatric burn anesthesia. Dr. Ambardekar’s leadership roles include Residency Program Director and Assistant Designated Institutional Official in the Office of Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Ambardekar is a national education leader. She sat on the Anesthesiology Review Committee at the ACGME and was the Chair of the committee from 2020-2023. Dr. Ambardekar is an Applied Examiner with the American Board of Anesthesiology. Most recently, Dr. Ambardekar participated on the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia’s Task Force on GME and led the group through a national consensus building initiative to assess and redefine aspects of pediatric anesthesiology fellowship, including new case log requirements, effective July 2026. Dr. Ambardekar’s academic interests include simulation, graduate medical education, and pediatric burn anesthesia. She curates pediatric anesthesia content specific to education for Pediatric Anesthesia Article of the Day. She is proud of helping her late colleague and mentor, Dr. Ronald Litman, publish the 3rd edition of his book, Litman’s Basics of Pediatric Anesthesia. When not at work, Dr. Ambardekar enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons.

Zvonimir Bebic, M.D., is an assistant professor in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Children's Hospital Colorado Born in Split, Croatia and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Zvonimir earned his medical degree from Saba University. He completed his residency training in anesthesiology at Zucker School of Medicine Hofstra/Northwell Program in Long Island, New York. After 18 years in Philadelphia, she recently returned to her rural roots, where she is passionate about advocating for access to anesthesia care for the children of rural New England. A passionate educator, Dr. Diaz has held multiple educational leadership roles, including Fellowship Simulation Director, Assistant Program Director, and Residency Site Director. Dr. Keech is a pediatric anesthesiologist in Iowa City, IA at the Stead Family Children's Hospital (University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics). She competed her residency at the University of Washington and her fellowship at Seattle Children's Hospital. Her clinical areas of interest include pediatric acute pain and regional anesthesia, pediatric out of OR anesthesia, and enjoying providing anesthetic are to a variety of surgical specialties. Outside of the operating room, Dr. Keech serves as an associate program director for the anesthesia residency program at the University of Iowa and an associate program director for the pediatric anesthesia fellowship at the University of Iowa. She also serves as the co-director for the medical student anesthesia rotation and medical director for the anesthesia (medical student) externship. Professionally, she loves being involved in the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia education committee, wellness committee, and the quality and safety committee. She served as the chair of the immediate past SPA meeting in the spring of 2022 in Tampa. She has a wonderful husband, even though he is a (thoracic) surgeon, and 4 amazing kids who keep her pretty busy with sports and life!

Just after completing his medical school, Dr. Mpody came to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar and completed his Ph.D. in Epidemiology & Biostatistics at the Ohio State University, which he completed in 2020. His clinical interest focuses on the heterogeneity of outcomes in postoperative critical illnesses, especially in the setting of key comorbidities, including neurologic, pulmonary, and metabolic. Dolores B. Njoku, MD is the Wise Professor and Vice Chair of Anesthesiology, and Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology in the Department of Anesthesiology at Washington University in St. Louis. She is an adjunct Professor in Pathology and Immunology at Washington University in St. Louis and Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Njoku received her medical degree from the University of Mississippi and completed a residency in Pediatrics at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland Ohio, where she served as Chief resident. She completed a residency in Anesthesiology and fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pediatric Critical Care at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and was full-time faculty from 1997 – 2021 where she served as Program Director for the Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology from 2007 – 2018. In July 2021, Dr. Njoku joined the faculty at Washington University in St Louis. Dr. Njoku is an internationally respected educator and translational researcher in immune-mediated liver injury and focuses on mechanisms that initiate immune-mediated liver injury and the role of sex and gender in the severity of this process. She is a nationally-recognized educator and lecturer. She is the Pediatric Anesthesiologist-in-Chief of the St. Louis Children’s Hospital, a member of the Department of Anesthesiology Promotions Committee, Chair of the Children’s Hospital Medical Executive Committee and a Faculty-at-large Representative for the Washington University in St. Louis Faculty Practice Plan. She is a member of the Board of the United Way of Central Maryland. She serves as a member of the ACGME Review Committee for Anesthesiology and a Full Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology, where she serves as Chair of the Standard Oral Exam. Kathryn Olivarius is an assistant professor of history at Stanford University, where she has taught since 2017. Her research and teaching focus on slavery’s rise and fall in the American South and the wider Atlantic World, the history of medicine and disease, the history of race and ethnicity, and the social upheaval of the Age of Revolutions. She was awarded Stanford’s Phi Beta Kappa prize for undergraduate teaching in 2019 and the Dean's Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2021. Before moving to California, she was a Past and Present postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Historical Research in London. Her article “Immunity, Power, and Belonging in Antebellum New Orleans,” was published by the American Historical Review in 2019 and won the Louisiana Historical Association’s award for the best article on Louisiana history. Her first book, Necropolis: Disease, Power, and Capitalism in the Cotton Kingdom was published by Harvard University Press (Belknap imprint) in 2022. Hedi Schroeck is the Director of Non-Operating-Room Anesthesia and the Associate Director of Anesthesiology Quality and Safety at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, NH. Her academic interest focuses on understanding workload and stressors for anesthesia providers delivering care in non-operating room anesthesia (NORA) locations, and using this knowledge to improve teamwork and multiprofessional crisis management in the NORA environment. She is the current recipient of the Department of Anesthesiology A&D Glass scholarship award, which provides her with protected time and start-up funding to examine anesthesia provider workload and emotions during neurosurgical cases in two different work environments – the normal operating room and a remote hybrid MRI-operating room. Moreover, Hedi Schroeck is developing interprofessional crisis simulation modules for MRI environments in collaboration with the Patient Safety Training Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. On a national level, Dr. Schroeck serves as a member of the NORA Society and the SAMBA NORA committee. Hedwig Schroeck completed her medical school training in Munich, Germany. She received her anesthesiology residency and pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC. She has previously held faculty positions at the University of North Carolina and the University of Michigan (Mott Children’s Hospital).

Bio

Devika Singh, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She serves as an attending pediatric anesthesiologist at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). With 18 years of experience in simulation-based educational activities, Dr. Singh completed the facilitator’s course at CHOP and the Institute of Medical Simulation in Boston in 2013, as well as Team STEPPS training in 2015. She also holds a master’s in medical education from the University of Pennsylvania which she completed in 2018. Dr. Singh has developed multiple simulation educational programs and curricula, including a multi-institutional pediatric anesthesia fellows boot camp, now in its 15th year. She mentors junior faculty in the development and execution of simulation-based educational sessions for residents and fellows. As a co-director and standing faculty member for the ABA-endorsed MOCA center at CHOP, Dr. Singh has been actively involved with the ASA-endorsed MOCA simulation offered at the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) meetings for the past decade. She has both developed and contributed to various simulation workshops for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, and other organizations. These sessions have highlighted pediatric anesthetic techniques, perioperative PALS training using high-fidelity mannequins, navigating difficult conversations with families, and addressing challenges faced by new faculty. Additionally, she is an active member of the SPA simulation special interest group (SIG).

Bio

Dr. Sinton is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin, TX. She is a graduate of Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed anesthesia residency at Johns Hopkins, pediatric anesthesia fellowship at University of North Carolina, and pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia fellowship at Texas Children’s. She has moved from Cincinnati Children’s to continue her career at Dell Children’s. She believes that we should look systematically at the autonomic pharmacology of agents we use every day for the safety of our vulnerable patients including those with Down Syndrome. She has completed an R21 for the study of autonomic nervous system involvement in the development of bradycardia during induction of general anesthesia with sevoflurane. Data from that effort led to quantification of developmental autonomic physiology in our perioperative patients. Next steps include using large-scale physiologic data to tie autonomic insights to renin-angiotensin phenotype and response perioperatively. On a personal note, she enjoys a morning workout and a matcha to start her day.

Joseph (Joe) Sisk, MD, FAAP is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina (UNC). Prior to joining UNC in 2021, he attended Medical School and completed his Anesthesiology Residency at the University of Toledo College of Medicine. He then completed his Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the University of Michigan where he served as the Chief Fellow. He worked as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the University of Oklahoma from 2016-2021 where he served as the Program Director for the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship. Dr. Sisk holds American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) Certifications in the specialty of Anesthesiology and the sub-specialty of Pediatric Anesthesiology. He served on the on the planning committees for the 2021 Society of Pediatric Anesthesia – American Academy of Pediatrics (SPA-AAP) Spring Meeting, the SPA 2022 Annual Meeting, and was Program Chair for the SPA 2023 Annual Meeting. Dr. Sisk's academic interests center around Patient Safety and Quality Improvement (PSQI). Locally, he serves as the PSQI Liaison for UNC's Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology, and on a national level, he is the Editor-in-Chief for SPA Case Guides.

Sulpicio (Sol) G. Soriano III, M.D. Dr. Soriano holds the Boston Children’s Hospital Endowed Chair in Pediatric Neuroanesthesia and is a Professor of Anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Graduate School of Education with a concentration in Medical Education. Sol completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of California Davis and pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital. His investigative work encompasses two themes: 1. adhesion molecules and central nervous system (CNS) injury and 2. neurotoxicity of anesthetic drugs on the developing brain. With the perspective of a clinical pediatric anesthesiologist, my laboratory efforts is focused on determining the effects of general anesthesia on CNS development, inflammation and learning and memory impairment, as well as the underlying mechanisms, and potential interventions in rodents, in primary neurons and microglia cells. Ongoing studies look at the effects of anesthetics on adhesion molecule function in the; with the intention of using them as anti-inflammatory agents in the setting of anesthesia, CNS injury and sepsis. Ongoing work on the neurotoxicity of anesthetic drugs on the developing brain focuses on the impact of ketamine and dexmedetomidine on neuronal viability and plasticity. I am utilizing clinically relevant paradigms in preclinical models of neuromodulation of CNS development by anesthetic drugs. His clinical activities include; 1. senior collaborator on the international GAS study, which is prospective randomized controlled trial the examined the neurocognitive performance of children who received an inguinal hernia repair as infants with either a general or spinal anesthetic, and 2. director of neuroanesthesia at Boston Children’s Hospital and head a clinical faculty that is engaged in both clinical care and investigations on pediatric neurosurgical patients. His clinical, research and educational achievements have allowed me to assume leadership roles in neuroanesthesia and appointments to NIH and FDA advisory committees. He also is a member of the Committee on Standards and Practice Parameters, Task Force on Preoperative Fasting.

Dr. Mariah Tanious is a pediatric anesthesiologist, ethicist and assistant professor practicing at the Medical University of South Carolina. Throughout her training and early scientific career, Dr. Tanious has cultivated a deep interest in the intersection of public health, perioperative care, and bioethics. Her research has focused on national and international vulnerable patient populations, culminating in several large retrospective studies examining end-of-life care in surgical patients. In addition to developing a multidisciplinary ethics think tank at her institution, Dr. Tanious co-directs the MUSC preclinical medical student course for Ethics and Biostatistics and precepts within the Harvard Masters of Science in Bioethics program. She remains active in local and national Ethics Committees, and lectures around the country on ethics-based topics such as pediatric informed consent, care for children of Jehovah's Witness families and perioperative end-of-life care.

Dr. Butch Uejima MD, MMM, FAAP, CPHRM Brief Bio Dr. Uejima is currently the Chief Medical Officer and the Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the Nemours/AI duPont Hospital for Children. As CMO, he has oversight for all clinical activities and risk management in the DE valley and is focused on integrating clinical operations with safety, quality, value and revenue cycle processes. Prior to coming to Nemours in 2013, Dr. Uejima spent his entire career at the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital where he held roles as their patient safety officer and chief risk officer overseeing both patient safety and medical malpractice. Dr. Uejima currently holds and has held several national positions. He recently stepped down as the editor-in-chief of the ASA Anesthesia Patient Editorial Board after a 12-yr stint on the board. He is a past-president of Wake Up Safe (WUS), the quality improvement/patient safety arm of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA). Dr. Uejima is the current chair of the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation’s committee on education and training. Dr. Uejima also sits on two committees with the American College of Surgeons. One is the Pediatric NSQIP data committee and second is the Children’s Surgical Verification Review committee which has oversight for the entire CSV program. Dr. Uejima is a reviewer for several anesthesia journals. Dr. Uejima is a student of leadership and holds a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon. This program is a physician-only leadership focused program. He was the chairman of the Leadership Development Committee of the Pediatric Anesthesia Leadership Council which comprises approximately 50-60 current pediatric anesthesia chairs. He actively mentors about a dozen physicians and sends out monthly leadership-related material to a group of about 400 individuals across the country.

Presently, on a national level, I serve on the Board of Directors for the Society for Education in Anesthesia and I am member of the executive education committee for the SPA. In addition, I serve on the Woman’s Empowerment Leadership Initiative steering committee designing the leadership curriculum to further promote woman in their career as leaders in pediatric anesthesiology within the SPA. Further, I have mentored in establishing the new physician well-being committee for the SPA. I have developed and delivered many workshops and presentations on topics related to learning principles, teaching, evaluation, ACGME competencies, motivation, leadership, team development and physician well-being to a variety of health care professions’ faculty members and trainees. My area of research is in assessment and evaluation in Graduate Medical Education and Professional Development.
