Fellows Workshop
This workshop is exclusively for fellows. Those who participate will learn valuable information about academic career development, research skills, clinical trial design and how to write a grant proposal.

Acupuncture
Upon completion of this workshop. the attendee will understand the indications, uses, limitations, theory, and basic techniques of acupuncture as applied to pediatric patients.

Airway
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be familiar with advanced airway management techniques, including Bullard laryngoscope, lighted stylette, fiberoptic bronchoscope, airway camera, and emergency tracheostomy.

Clinical Trial Designs
The participant will review the essential components in design and execution of clinical trials. Describe the resources available to support clinical research endeavors.

Magical Distractions for Children
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be able to demonstrate magic illusions that can be employed to distract children (or surgeons) during induction of anesthesia and discuss the benefits of magic and other distractions to alternatives such as premedication.

Managing Epidurals - Caudal to Thoracic: Intra and Postoperative Management
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will able to explain the caudal to cervical approach, single-shot techniques, catheter placement and confirmation, monitoring, problem-solving and patient selection.

Practical Regional Anesthesia
Upon completion of this workshop, the attendee will understand the anatomy, techniques (including equipment and drug selection), application and potential complications of the most commonly utilized peripheral nerve blocks in children. Blocks discussed will include axillary, femoral, fascia iliaca, sciatic, ankle, and penile nerve blocks.

Is There (Professional) Life Outside the Operating Room? Medical School, Hospital Administration and Other Adventures for Anesthesiologists
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be familiar with alternative career pathways with which to supplement their work in anesthesiology. Practical and educational preparation for these kinds of opportunities will be discussed by those who have "been there, done that."

What's New in Circulatory Support? Pharmacologic, Mechanical, Eectrical
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be familiar with new pharmacologic modes of circulatory support including levothyroxine and vasopressin; new modes of mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices and ECMO; and new pacemaker technology.

Anesthesia for Thoracic Surgery/Thoracoscopy: Anesthetic Management/One Lung Ventilation Postoperative Pain Management
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be familiar with the issues involved in anesthetic management for thoracic surgical procedures including techniques for achieving one lung ventilation and choices for intra and postoperative analgesia.

What's New in Ventilation: Modes of Ventilation/New Anesthesia Machine Technology?
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be knowledgeable about new ventilator technology and the perioperative management of patients receiving new modes of ventilation. The participant will have the opportunity to have hands-on experience with two next generation anesthesia machines incorporating innovative ventilator technology.

Current Pediatric Sedation Solutions
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be well informed on problems faced by hospitals/anesthesiologists in finding solutions for the problem of pediatric patients who require sedation for procedures and diagnostic studies outside the operating room. Issues including personpower, organization of scheduling/service delivery, choice of agents, morbidity and quality assurance will be covered.

Contract Negotiations for Anesthesiologists
Upon completion of this workshop, the participant will be familiar with the areas of concern with respect to employment contract negotiation, including practice/hospital issues, restrictive covenants, and partnership issues.
