Instructions for Submitting Presentations

  1. Authors must use the provided PowerPoint template to create their presentation.
    Click here to download this template.
    This template can only be used in Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 or newer.
  2. Presentations must be in PowerPoint (.ppt) or Office 2007 PowerPoint (.pptx) format.
  3. Please protect your presentations against editing (but not against opening). Instructions are given below. NOTE: The Apple Macintosh version of PowerPoint does not include this feature. If your presentation was created on a Mac, please upload it as-is and it will be locked during the review stage.
  4. Submitted presentations must include this completed form and Copyright Release. The Copyright Release must be printed and then mailed or faxed to the SPA headquarters due to signature requirements. Presentations will not be made available until approved by the editor and the Copyright Release is on file with the SPA headquarters.

Style Guidelines

The purpose of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia Committee for International Anesthesia and Education PowerPoint Lecture Series is to provide information on pediatric anesthesia practice in a PowerPoint format.

In order to standardize PowerPoint lecture submissions, please note the following:

  1. Organization of lecture:
    1. title slide
    2. disclosure slide
    3. objective
    4. outline
    5. main body
    6. conclusion/summary
    7. references
  2. Duration of lectures between 30-45 mins with approximately 1 slide/min
  3. Each slide should be accompanied by notes to fully explain contents
  4. Lectures limited to 20 MB maximum file size
  5. Slide format:
    1. background should be consistent for all slides (Download recommended template)
    2. layout should be consistent: positioning of text, margins, fonts, font sizes, colors, etc.
    3. suggested fonts: Arial, Verdana, Tahoma, Times New Roman
    4. suggested font sizes: title - 36 pts, subtitle or bullet points - 28 pts, content text - 24 pts, footnotes - 12 pts
    5. limit use of capital letters and italics
    6. use bullet points to explain main idea, 4-6/slide, use key words and phrases, no sentences or periods
    7. limit animation, simple transitions best
    8. graphics and pictures save as .jpg files, should not exceed 500 X 400
  6. Include a list of references and note permission granted for use of copyrighted material when appropriate
  7. Remember to check for spelling and grammatical errors

Lock your presentation to prevent editing. Instructions to do so follow:

If you are using Office 2007 for Windows:

  1. Click the Office button in the top left corner of the screen
  2. Choose Save As.
  3. In the bottom left corner of the Save As dialog box, click on the Tools button.
  4. Choose General Options ....

There are two password options available for you to add to your presentation. You will need to set the password to modify. This will allow others to see the presentation but no alterations can be made. By adding a password to this box, no one can make any changes to the presentation without first entering the password. Be aware that if you forget this password, even you will be unable to edit the presentation.

If you are using Office 2003 for Windows:

Passwords can be added by choosing Tools > Options from the menu. Choose the Security tab at the top of the dialog box.

The Macintosh version of PowerPoint does not include a file protection feature. If your presentation was created on a Mac, please upload it as-is and it will be locked during the review stage.
